Too Cold?

Bikram class # 84 in 80 days last night. Today I'll do # 85 and will complete the 30 day challenge. I think I win a bag or something, but I told them I want a t-shirt! We'll see if that happens.

One thing interesting that's happened in classes this week is I keep getting more and more used to the temperature and I honestly didn't feel hot in any of the classes this week. Very warm, but not horrible, want-to-run-out-of-the-room hot. The good part about this is that I'm really just focused on the postures and I could care less if the fans come on or the doors open. The usual percentage of people end up dropping during part of the standing series, but I'm just cruising along.

One of my favorite teachers was (is) Heather, who sadly moved away this week to teach full-time at a studio in another state. She told us to try to imagine the class as a whole, rather than a series of different postures. I really like this viewpoint, and that's how I've been approaching things recently. Instead of worrying about getting through the next posture, I just focus on the 90 minutes.

I'm thinking about doing some double(s) next week, like more than one. We'll see how that goes...

  1. Hi Greg! Thanks for the nice note this morning! I'm digging your blog so far. It's really fun to read your posts and remember all the things I experienced when I first started seriously practicing. I'd totally forgotten about this, but I think it WAS right around the 3 month mark that I stopped feeling the heat. I knew it was still hot, cause I was sweating like a lunatic, but I had no sensation of heat or discomfort anymore. It was kind of surprising!

It won't always be like that now, but it will SOMETIME be like that. Some days you will be totally comfortable, breathing normal, working hard on the postures, cheerfully sweating and stretching away. (In my opinion, that's really the way it's supposed to be. The heat is there to HELP you, and if you're in great condition, it will do just that.) Other days the heat WILL unexpectedly knock you on your ass. That's fun, too, cause now you know how to smile and stand back up!

Anyway, keep it up. It's nice having your voice on here. The more the merrier!

    Best, Juliana :)

  2. Thanks Juliana! I know what you mean about the heat. Once in a while, I do still get knocked over the heat. It happened last Sunday and I thought I was going to pass out. But I got through it, and my class the next day was awesome.
